Self-awareness leading to self-improvement

It is important to constantly be aware of what you are thinking, why you are thinking it, and if you should even be thinking it. We go through a lot of emotions and thoughts throughout the day, so much so that sometimes we are in a never ending cycling of recycling thoughts and thought patters. These thoughts may be destructive, counter-productive, or just unnecessary. So it is always important to analyze ones thoughts. Treat others the way you want to be treated -- is a saying that one should live by, knowing this it is easy to discern behavior or thoughts that you might want to illuminate or stop. The power of discernment is within all of us, and it is up to use to employ it and put it into practice. Not only to better ourselves but to better the people around us; because when we are able to less selfish and more servant to others, this is where we will find the key.

Sometimes we find ourselves always thinking the same or acting and reacting the same way everyday to the same things, it is important to recognize these things especially if they are not beneficial to us. If we could look at everything as if it is the first time we are seeing it -- meaning without thought or preconceived notion then we would be seeing it really for what it is. If we constantly look at things for what we remember them as or what we "think" they are then we are missing the picture. For example, you might have an ex girlfriend or boyfriend. If every time you see them you thinking about "oh they cheated on me", "oh they are like this or that" then you are only seeing them for that. You are not seeing them for the possibility of becoming something better rather limiting them for their potential.
